What happens if ice and hard pack are left behind after a service?
During extreme winter weather, thin layers of ice or "hard-pack" (compacted snow) may remain on the surface after a property has been plowed or shoveled.
Why ice and hard-pack occur
Standard snow removal equipment, such as plows and shovels, is designed to remove loose snow. They are often unable to scrape away:
Compacted snow: Snow that has been driven or walked on before service.
Ice: Frozen moisture caused by melting and refreezing or freezing rain.
Uneven surfaces: Snow settled in low spots or cracks in the pavement.
The best solution: Add Salt or Ice Melt
The most effective way to treat ice and hard-pack is with a de-icing agent. If your property is prone to compaction or has uneven pavement, we highly recommend adding Salt or Ice Melt to your service request.
How it works: Salt breaks the bond between the ice and the pavement, melting away the layer that a plow blade cannot reach.
Proactive protection: Requesting salt with your order ensures a clearer, safer surface once the physical snow removal is complete.
How to add salt to your order
You can select the salt application add-on during the checkout process for both On-time and AutoPlow services.
